Guidelines for parents

Meetings of the Board of Management in schools under the patronage of An Foras Patrúnachta, must be conducted through Irish, therefore all Board members are required to have a working knowledge of Irish.

Purpose

  • To develop a co-educational all-Irish Primary school whose community fosters and encourages all its members towards a deep respect and lasting interest in the Irish language and culture, being mindful of the diversity in language.
  • Foster a quality learning environment for pupils and for teachers.
  • Provide as broad an education as possible for each pupil.
  • Encourage excellence in learning and reward effort.
  • Promote healthy self-esteem in a happy environment.
  • Encourage self-discipline and a realisation of the importance of personal choice.
  • Promote at all times a positive professional image of the school.
  • Respect teachers as the single most valuable asset of the school.
  • Advise and work with parents in the education of their children.
  • Strive to ensure that parents find the school an open, welcoming, inclusive place with an open door policy.
  • If a parent has difficulty about any aspect of the school’s work, the matter is to be referred in the first instance to the class teacher, and subsequently, if necessary, to the Principal. Matters will be dealt with informally if possible in a spirit of mutual respect and concern.
  • Clarification/questions that arise in respect of or in relation to school policies or activities to be referred directly to the school/Principal for accuracy and guidance.
  • Help those in need.
  • A spiritual ethos will influence the work of the school.
